The goal of SEO is your goal.
What do you need to achieve in your website?
From an SEO’s perspective, SEO’s goal is to drive more traffic – which is true. But here’s the catch, is it the right traffic?
Many times I have seen businesses hire a freelancer or an agency, and they go straight to publishing a bunch of blogs. Don’t get me wrong, blogs aren’t immediately incorrect or anything. The issue is many times these pieces of content have no real direction. They create the same general information that is already out there without being unique in any way.
Take this for example, if you sign with an SEO to help your tire shop business rank up – what would make more sense?
If you’re telling people how to do your job, why the hell are they going to go with you? You just told them how to do it themselves…
On one hand you could argue if someone comes across that post, they agree with how you do your work, then it would build their trust in letting you change their tire. My reaction to that is, people who need a tire patched aren’t looking at how to do it first, they just want to find someone and make a call. In this example, we have a chance to bring in traffic, but that traffic is going to be a bunch of DIY people wanting to learn.
Finally, you need to define your own website goals – SEO is here to support that goal.
