Oh, that’s a new one, haven’t heard that one in a while…
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEO is the practice of optimizing websites so they rank better in search engines like Google, Bing, and even smaller players. If your page is about lawn mowers, and I search something about lawn mowers, will your website appear in search results? The process of making your page discoverable, is SEO in essence.
You don’t even have to throw data at anyone to prove against this statement. Let’s just look at it logically:
As long as search engines exist, SEO cannot die…
If Google disappeared tomorrow (it won’t), and Bing or some AI-powered search took over, guess what? You would still need to optimize for that search engine… The popular search engine changes, but the principle remains the same—visibility in search.
I can think of a few reasons why this buzz word keeps popping up for the past 10 years, or are we at the new score of 11?
We can correlate this same scenario with the auto industry. We’ve had cars for the better part of 50 years, cars are constantly changing and improving (debatable…) – yet we still need and have mechanics? Mechanics don’t die, they just learn the new material to do their job. And the same principle applies to us SEOs. Learn and discover new strategies, don’t curl into a ball crying Google killed you again.
